What are Retaining Walls Used For?

Retaining walls are an integral part of any engineered landscape, providing support and stabilization for slopes that would otherwise be too steep, unstable earth, or unusable to the requirement of the land. Retaining wall systems come in many shapes and sizes to create a variety of unique structures such as hillside farming terraces, roadway overpasses, seawalls/bulkheads, structural retention for building purposes, residential or commercial applications, and simply for a garden wall to elevate your tomatoes. Depending on their application, the specialized structures come with immense benefits but must be meticulously engineered to perform the required retention as the situation demands due to environmental or physical requirements as called out by the needs for a retaining wall construction.

Our Approach to Retaining Wall Design

The process for considering a retaining wall starts with the project consultation. This provides our client to explain their needs, budgets, and their time frames. Hunter Springs will listen to their requests, determine if the project is obtainable, and complete a site analysis to begin project design.

At this stage, based on environmental & soil conditions, along with the retaining wall system required, the details and analysis are submitted to an engineer for their certified stamped plans for client approval. If the wall system does not require stamped engineered plans, Hunter Springs will provide the scaled plans for the wall, the created topography, and materials that were mutually chosen to build out the retaining system. Once the client has approved the provided specifications and project costs, a schedule for project completion is established. The above description is an abridged version of the necessary process to design, develop and build out a retaining wall project. Building with Large Stone Boulders

These rip-rap boulders have so much character and can they hold back some earth. These boulders are hand placed and are put together like a jigsaw puzzle to create your own, one of a kind retaining wall. We can also use smaller rocks to create the same function, but on a much smaller scale. These walls are built with drainage in mind, not to mention the natural beauty they display.
