The back area of this Fayetteville home was just begging to be turned into a great outdoor entertaining area but needed one small spark to get it going. With this in mind, it didn’t take long for the concept of an outdoor living room to be conceived. The homeowner wanted a new set of stairs to get safely into the backyard. We knew where the stairs were going, but not how to get to them. Hence, a new 500 sq.ft. patio was built upon a 6’ high, 140′ long boulder retaining wall. This created a level space for the patio and created new planting areas which complemented the new structure. The homeowners did not want “just a fence” around the perimeter but an outdoor room with lots of windows to see the wonderful view. To do this, we built custom walls with lots of windows and high ceilings. A full landscape design and build project, set in four phases has been started for this home, after a remodel and addition to the rear of the home. Phase one started with a raised patio that included inlayed nightscape lighting and preparations for pergola construction. Phase two was the surrounding patio to the raised patio. This included a walk to the drive and natural boulder retaining walls with boulder stairs to elevation changes. Also included in this phase were the preparations for landscape lighting and the construction of the pergola, built from hemlock wood. The third phase was the design and construction of an outdoor kitchen that was incorporated with the pergola atop of the raised patio. Phase four will include the completion of the nightscaping and the landscape design & installation of the trees, shrubs and perennials. This is truly an example of creating an outdoor “living room” in your CNY backyard environment!
